The Scottish Fold’s folded ear results from a naturally occurring dominant gene that affects the cartilage of the ears. The Scottish Fold is sometimes said to resemble an owl with its large, round eyes, rounded heads, and folded ears. Scottish Folds kittens are all born with straight ears; the ears begin to fold (if they’re going to) at about three weeks of age. Scottish Folds can be short-haired or long-haired and come in just about any color imaginable.
